Note from the editor

This is my first editorial as Editor-In-Chief, and I’m so proud to present you with our Winter edition of The Linguist! In this, we’ve got a huge variety of articles in our six modern foreign languages (French, Spanish, Italian, German, Russian, and Mandarin). These have been written by our linguists on our theme of Evolution, including ones on the evolution of Russian ballet, the art deco movement, and the study of language itself. As well as this, we’re lucky to have contributions from Señor Carbonell and Ms Ortiz, and a few talented students in younger years.

We’re also happy to be featuring translations of poems that were submitted to the Stephen Spender competition, and our competition’s beautiful winning illustration from a student in the middle school.

There have been many events and trips this term. You can enjoy reading here about the Italian trips to the opera and the Galleria Estorick, as well as the German students’ visit to Ludwigsburg. I hope you enjoy reading this edition of The Linguist, it’s been a pleasure putting this together. There are, of course, translations of each article at the end.
